Renowned Cleric Advocates for Law Requiring Civil Servants to Take Multiple Wives for the Betterment of Society

A highly regarded Islamic scholar, Sheikh Aminu Baba Waziri, has made a compelling plea to lawmakers to introduce legislation that would mandate civil servants on Level 12 and above to marry additional wives.

In his Friday sermon at the Takur Commercial Mosque in Dutse, Jigawa State, Sheikh Waziri highlighted the pressing need for men to consider marrying more than one wife, considering the surplus of eligible women in society.

Expressing his concern, Sheikh Waziri lamented the reluctance of men, particularly those who are already married, to take on additional wives, despite the availability of widows and unmarried women who are eager to enter into marriage.

The esteemed cleric emphasized the significant role of marriage in Islam, pointing out that both the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) strongly emphasize its importance and the value it holds in the eyes of Allah.

Sheikh Waziri referenced Chapter 4:3 of the Holy Quran, where Allah states, “You fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or that which your right hands possess. That will be more suitable to prevent you from doing injustice.”

In light of this, the prominent clergyman urged lawmakers to enact a law that would require civil servants on Level 12 with only one wife to take another wife before their next promotion.
