Empowering Women in Governance: Wike Urges New Mandate Secretary to Drive Inclusivity

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on the newly appointed Mandate Secretary of the Women Affairs Secretariat, Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, to champion the involvement of women in the administration’s programs.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony held in Abuja on October 24, 2023, Wike emphasized the importance of Benjamins-Laniyi’s experience and talents in enhancing governance in the FCT. He urged her to bring innovation and fresh perspectives to her role.

Recognizing the significance of the position, which is the first of its kind in the FCT, Wike advised Benjamins-Laniyi to collaborate closely with her colleagues to effectively execute the mandate of her Secretariat.

Addressing Benjamins-Laniyi, the Minister said, “With your remarkable resume, we can see that you’re well-equipped with talent and experience. We expect you to utilize these qualities to ensure that women have a voice and representation in the governance structure of the FCT.”

Wike further expressed his belief that women would seize this opportunity to contribute to the Renewed Hope agenda, underscoring the importance of inclusivity in driving the agenda forward.

Regarding the Women Affairs Secretariat, Wike praised President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu for their commitment to inclusivity and their efforts to ensure that women are actively involved in governance. The establishment of the Mandate Secretariat on Women Affairs aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda and represents a significant step forward.

Appointed as the pioneer Secretary of the FCTA Women Affairs Secretariat, Benjamins-Laniyi brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her new role. Born on October 17, 1965, she is a distinguished graduate of the University of Ibadan and hails from Ogun State.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Minister of State of the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, FCT Permanent Secretary, Olusade Adesola, and other mandate Secretaries of the FCTA. Family and friends of the new Secretary also graced the occasion.
