Ekiti State Government Urges Citizens to Protect Waterways and Maintain Proper Sanitation

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, has issued a stern warning about the detrimental effects of obstructing waterways and dumping waste in drains and culverts. Olatunbosun emphasized that these reckless actions could exacerbate the continuous problem of flooding in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

Olatunbosun, during a radio program discussing the achievements of the State Government over the past year, highlighted the significant investments made by Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration in dredging waterways and de-silting drains and culverts.

However, he pointed out that the issue of flooding would persist unless residents strictly adhere to the Urban and Physical Development Code, as well as sanitation laws.

Emphasizing the commitment of the administration to the overall well-being of the people and rapid development of the state, Olatunbosun recalled that Governor Oyebanji based his campaign promises on six pillars, which have now become the fundamental pillars of his administration.

Among the notable achievements, Olatunbosun highlighted the construction and reconstruction of Ado Ekiti township roads, GRA 3rd Extension Ado-Ilawe, Ado-Iworoko, Igbara-Odo-Ikogosi, Ilawe-Erijiyan, as well as the drilling of motorized boreholes across towns and renovation of basic health centres.

It is crucial for all residents of Ekiti State to prioritize the preservation of waterways and uphold proper sanitation practices. By doing this, flood incidents can be significantly reduced, leading to a safer and more sustainable environment for all.
