Zulum Assures Swift Completion of 1,000 Housing Units for Borno IDPs

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has given his assurance to the displaced people of Logumani and Gajibo communities that they will soon be able to return to their homes. These two communities, located in the Ngala and Dikwa Local Government Areas, were devastated by Boko Haram insurgents, resulting in the displacement of residents since 2014. However, Governor Zulum shared some uplifting news with the affected residents, stating that once the ongoing construction of 1,000 housing units is completed, they will be able to resettle in their communities once again.

The governor conveyed this message during his inspection of the progress of the project on Friday. He expressed confidence that the construction would be finished within two months, paving the way for the displaced people to return to their homes. “We have observed the level of construction here,” Governor Zulum stated, “and I have set a deadline of two months for the completion of the work. Insha’ Allah, we will return people back to their homes.”

Notably, the housing project includes essential facilities such as a primary school, a health center, a police station, and a water borehole. Additionally, Governor Zulum directed that the construction of 500 housing units in Gajibo be completed within three months to expedite the return of the community’s residents.

Recognizing the importance of ensuring food security in the crisis-ridden area, Governor Zulum emphasized the implementation of irrigation farming. The Borno State Government aims to provide a sustainable solution to the livelihood challenges faced by IDPs returning to their ancestral communities through agricultural activities. To this end, the governor pledged to equip farmers with modern irrigation tools and implements, enabling them to enhance their crop yield.

With these initiatives, Governor Zulum reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare and well-being of the displaced persons in Borno State, assuring them of a swift resolution to their current plight. As the completion of the housing units draws near, hope is rekindled for the affected communities, signaling a positive step towards their long-awaited return home.
