Impeachment Saga: Aiyedatiwa’s Reconciliation Efforts Hindered, Says Ondo House of Assembly

The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, has shed light on the ongoing impeachment saga between Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the state legislators, stating that Aiyedatiwa’s lack of readiness for genuine reconciliation is impeding progress.

The disclosure was made by Oladiji in Akure, the state capital, over the weekend. He highlighted that Aiyedatiwa has yet to withdraw the cases against the Assembly, as was previously agreed upon during a meeting with the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A few weeks ago, Aiyedatiwa sought legal intervention to halt the impeachment proceedings against him, citing allegations of gross misconduct leveled by the Assembly.

“The reconciliation process must begin with the deputy governor. It is he who took us to court. We cannot reconcile while these cases are still ongoing,” said Oladiji. “Let him proceed to court and withdraw all the cases. It is then that we will know that genuine reconciliation is possible.”

He added, “As far as the House of Assembly is concerned, we are not taking any action. The cases are before the court, and we will respect due process by following up on them.”

Responding to allegations of division within the Assembly, Oladiji dismissed such claims as false. He affirmed, “In times of political turbulence like this, there may be insinuations and rumors, but I want to make it clear that we stand united in the House of Assembly. We understand that it is an institution, and we have a duty to protect it. We are resolute in our unity.”

The Ondo House of Assembly remains committed to resolving this ongoing episode in accordance with established legal procedures. Aiyedatiwa’s willingness to withdraw the cases against the Assembly will pave the way for meaningful reconciliation.
