Bayelsa Election Violence: INEC Staff and NYSC Member Attacked, Result Sheets Stolen

In a distressing turn of events during the Bayelsa State governorship election, suspected thugs associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) viciously attacked ad-hoc staff from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a dedicated member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The targeted assault, which occurred at Ward 1, Unit 23 in Onopa, Yenagoa Local Government Area, resulted in the theft of crucial election materials, including the Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

Furthermore, the armed thugs callously seized the belongings of the NYSC member, instigating fear and chaos at the polling unit.

Amidst this reprehensible act, the agent of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) affirmed that the collation and sorting of votes was disrupted by the invasion. Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported.

Regrettably, similar incidents of election interference transpired at Ward 11 in Opume and Emakalakala, Ogbia Local Government Area. Suspected APC thugs targeted polling units 14, 15, and 19, causing rampant disruption. Despite the upheaval, some crucial results had already been documented before the untimely cessation of the electoral process.

Adding to the mounting concerns, Ward 3 in Olodiama community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, fell victim to armed thugs who absconded with the original result sheets from polling units 14 to 19.
