The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced plans to introduce computer-based testing for the WASSCE for Private Candidates, marking a significant shift from the traditional pen and paper format. This development was disclosed in a statement by the Public Affairs Department of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office, signed by Moyosola F. Adesina, the Ag. Head Public Affairs.
According to the statement, the registration for the computer-based WASSCE for Private Candidates will open on Monday, December 18, 2023. WAEC highlighted that this transition to computer-based examination is in line with global best practices, aligning the council with modern assessment standards.
For the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2024 ā€“ First Series scheduled for February 2024, the Objective Tests will be exclusively computer-based. However, the Essay and Test of Practical papers will be in a hybrid format, where questions will be presented on the screen, and candidates will provide their answers in the answer booklets provided.
The council also assured that the examination will be administered in urban centres and cities, with provisions made for candidates with special needs. This move is indicative of WAEC’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in its examination processes.
As WAEC paves the way for a new era in the assessment of private candidates, it signifies a progressive step towards leveraging technology to enhance the examination experience.
