University of Ilorin Awards N49 Million Senate Research Grants to Nine Lecturers

The University of Ilorin has demonstrated its commitment to advancing research and knowledge by awarding over N49 million to nine academic staff members. This significant investment in research was revealed in a memo distributed to the university community by the Senate Research Grant Technical Committee, underscoring the institution’s dedication to supporting intellectual growth and innovation.

According to the committee’s chairman, Prof. Olubunmi Omotesho, the grants are intended to facilitate studies in diverse areas for the betterment of society. It is noteworthy that out of 30 research proposals submitted, only nine were selected after a rigorous evaluation process, with careful consideration given to factors such as representation across various faculties of the university.

Prof. Omotesho emphasized the potential for the selected research endeavours to make substantial contributions to knowledge and research within the university. The areas of interest span across the Humanities to Sciences, with funding varying for each project. Dr. Segun Talabi’s project, focusing on the production of smokeless briquettes as an alternative domestic energy source, secured the highest amount of N8,050,000.

Other beneficiaries of the grants include Prof. Abdulrasheed Adeoye, Dr. Akorede Jimoh, Prof. Leah Dominic, Prof. Gafar Ijaiya, Prof. AbdulAzeez Lawal, and Prof. Rasheedat Mahamood, each awarded grants for their respective research projects. These projects encompass a wide array of crucial topics, from sustainable strategies for empowering marginalized populations to reducing the carbon footprint through renewable energy supply.
