PDP Umbrella Force Holds Party Leadership Responsible for Imo and Kogi Election Losses

A group of members from the Peoples Democratic Party, operating under the PDP Umbrella Force, has attributed the recent defeats in the Imo and Kogi States governorship elections to inadequate leadership.

In the announcement of the election outcomes by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) triumphed over the PDP in Imo and Kogi States during the Saturday poll.

In Imo, the APC candidate and incumbent governor, Hope Uzodinma, secured 540,308 votes to surpass Samuel Anyanwu of the PDP, who amassed 71,503 votes.

In Kogi State, the APC candidate, Usman Ododo, emerged victorious with 446,237 votes, defeating his closest contender, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party, who garnered 259,052 votes.

In response, the group, through an open letter issued by its convener, Prince Yemi Adebowale, held the absence of a substantive national chairman, lack of party discipline among erring stakeholders, and alleged exclusion of youth and women from party activities accountable for the outcome.

The Umbrella Force urged the party leadership to undertake a reformation and restructuring of the party.

“The defeats in the recent elections underscore the necessity for an overhaul in the operations of our party, as the marginalization of vital stakeholders and essential demographics contributed to our resounding defeat and humbling losses in two out of the three off-cycle elections,” the letter emphasized.
