Labour Party Urged to Conduct Democratic Congress by Group

A prominent group within the Labour Party is calling for immediate action from the national leadership to organize congresses at all levels. The Labour Party Patriotic Members Congress (LPPMC) emphasized the need for a comprehensive democratic process to take place within the party.

Dexter Femi Akin-Alamu, the National Spokesperson of LPPMC, conveyed this message during a press conference in Ibadan, Oyo State. He was accompanied by Mr. Folu Bademosi, the South West coordinator of the group, as they stood united in their commitment to the party’s vision and mission.

They specifically highlighted the importance of conducting national, state, local, and ward congresses to facilitate the selection of leaders who resonate with the collective vision for a new Nigeria, catering to both new and longstanding members.

Akin-Alamu expressed the group’s discontent with the recent Supreme Court ruling, emphasizing their unwavering belief in a brighter future for Nigeria. Despite their disagreement with the court’s decision, they acknowledged the constitution’s supremacy and the finality of the Supreme Court’s pronouncements.

He stated, “LPPMC is fully dedicated to the Labour Party’s vision and mission, and we stand united in demanding a transformative and inclusive democratic process within the party. Our membership has substantially increased over the past two years, reflecting the shared aspiration to shape a new Nigeria.”

Highlighting the divergence in vision among leaders at various levels, Akin-Alamu stressed the critical need for a comprehensive democratic congress to align leadership with the collective aspirations of the party’s members.

The LPPMC unequivocally urged the present leadership of the Labour Party to promptly organize a national congress, state congress, local government congress, and ward congress, marking a defining moment for the party’s democratic trajectory.
