The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken a significant step in enhancing security measures with the unveiling of its VIP Protection Unit, aimed at safeguarding individuals at higher risk of threats due to their status, prominence, and influence.
During the passing-out ceremony of over 501 personnel selected from state commands across the federation and other formations, Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi emphasised the need for professionalism and integrity among the members of the newly established unit. He cautioned them against actions that could tarnish the image of the corps.
Representing Commandant General Audi at the event, Assistant Commandant General Augustine Obiekwe highlighted the key responsibilities of the unit, which include minimizing risks to VIPs and maintaining their privacy, enabling them to carry out their daily activities and engagements without compromising their safety.
Furthermore, ACG David Abi, in his welcome address, urged the officers to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their rigorous proficiency training. He emphasized the corps’ commitment to meeting and surpassing expectations in service delivery.
The establishment of the VIP Protection Unit, according to the NSCDC national PRO, CSC Babawale Zaid Afolabi, aligns with the federal government’s mandate. The selection and training of personnel for the unit reflect the commitment to proper coordination and command in line with global best practices.
Moreover, the appointment of Assistant Commandant of Corps Donald Anyor as the head of the unit underscores the corps’ dedication to ensuring top-notch leadership and expertise in VIP protection.
This strategic initiative by the NSCDC reaffirms its unwavering commitment to national security and the protection of individuals in positions of influence, ultimately contributing to a safer environment for all.
