World Bank and Delta State Government Collaborate to Enhance Access to Clean Water

The World Bank and Delta State Government have joined forces in a bid to enhance access to clean and safe drinking water for residents across the state.

Ms. Judith Warmate, Senior Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist at the World Bank, made this known during a visit to Delta State by a delegation from the bank and the Federal Programme Implementation Unit of the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply Sanitation and Hygiene Programme (SURWASH).

She highlighted that the team, on a five-day mission to the state, aims to utilize the visit to learn and enhance efforts to provide water for residents in different states.

The participants included officials from various governmental water agencies from Delta, Ekiti, Imo, and Abuja.

“The team’s objective is not to seek faults but to engage in candid discussions with the participating states as part of activities aimed at ensuring sustainable access to clean water for Deltans and other residents,” she stated.

Addressing the participants during the interactive session, Abudulhamid Guaram, the National Programme Coordinator of SURWASH, emphasized that the purpose of the mission was to evaluate the progress made by states, understand the challenges they are facing, and propose solutions to ensure access to clean water for residents.

Dr. Tosan Wilkie, the Commissioner for Water Resources Development in Delta State, who received the delegation, affirmed the state’s commitment to enhancing access to clean water for its residents.

The participants also visited various SURWASH sub-project sites, including water schemes and sanitation facilities at Ogbe-Ogume Grammar School, Olie Primary School, and the local market, all located in Ogbe-Ogume in Ndokwa West LGA.
