2026 WCQ: Peseiro names five players Super Eagles missed against Zimbabwe

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has named five players his side missed against Zimbabwe.

Peseiro watched as Zimbabwe played a 1-1 draw against Nigeria in Sunday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The World Cup qualifier was played at the Huye Stadium in Butare, Rwanda.

Walter Musona scored a powerful long-range free-kick to give Zimbabwe a 1-0 lead in the first half.

However, Kelechi Iheanacho scored in the second half to restore parity, as the match ended in a draw after full-time.

When asked whether the absence of some key players contributed to Super Eagles’ failure to record a win against Zimbabwe, Peseiro said: “We missed Osimhen, Ndidi, Taiwo, Zaidu, and Chukwueze, but I think we had enough to beat Zimbabwe.”

Nigeria will now face South Africa in their next World Cup qualifier in June next year.
