Appeal Court Affirms Gov Aliyu’s Victory in Sokoto Guber Election

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the election of Ahmed Aliyu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the governor of Sokoto State, affirming his victory in the March 18 governorship election. The three-member panel of justices dismissed the appeal of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Saidu Umar.

This comes after the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jos, Sokoto State, had previously upheld the victory of Aliyu of the APC in an earlier judgment. The tribunal stated that the petitioners, the PDP and its candidate, failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.

The PDP and its candidate, Saidu Umar, had contested the victory of the APC and its candidate, Ahmad Aliyu, in the March 18 governorship election in the state. However, their quest for justice was unsuccessful at both the tribunal and the Appeal Court.
