ECOWAS Court Enhances Risk Management Strategies for 2024

The ECOWAS Court of Justice is taking proactive measures by reviewing and enhancing its risk management strategies for the upcoming year. Under the banner of “Risks Register Training and Preparation of the 2024 Risks Register,” the court organized a workshop in Nasarawa State, north central Nigeria. This workshop aimed to equip key personnel with the necessary expertise to identify, address, and manage potential risks effectively.

During the workshop, President of the Court, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, stressed the significance of developing and adopting a Risk Register for the ECOWAS Court of Justice. He emphasized the importance of empowering divisional heads and unit leaders with the requisite knowledge and skills to tackle the risks associated with their responsibilities.

Justice Asante urged participants to actively engage with the experts’ guidance on the development and management of a risk register, recognizing its crucial role in proactive risk management.

Dr. Alfred Braimah, former Auditor General of the Institutions of the Community and Lead Consultant, conveyed the pervasiveness of risks, highlighting their inherent presence in everyday life. Additionally, Mr. Babatunde Oladipo, a consultant, emphasized the emergence of new risks and the importance of proactively managing risks before they materialize through Enterprise Risk Management (ERM).

As part of the initiative, participants are expected to define risks within their respective departments and propose solutions to mitigate their consequences, thereby optimizing the objectives of the Court. This endeavor reflects the Court’s commitment to ensuring a robust risk management framework in preparation for the challenges of the upcoming year.
