Housing Ministry’s Pledge to Uphold Fiscal Accountability and Transparency

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in financial governance, aligning with the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act. This declaration was made by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, during a visit from the Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Bar Victor Muruako, and his team.

Arc Ahmed Musa Dangiwa emphasized that prudent financial management within the Ministry is not just a choice, but a fundamental obligation to the Nigerian people. He eloquently expressed, “Every decision, every resource allocation, is laden with public trust and expectation. Instilling fiscal responsibility is an ethical imperative and a commitment to transparent and accountable governance.” He further added, “Fiscal responsibility should underpin our decisions, policies, and strategies, ensuring judicious management of the Ministry’s resources to provide value for money in our affordable housing and urban development plans.

The Minister also lauded the Commission for its dedication to establishing an institutional framework for efficient resource allocation and effective debt management in the country. He expressed the Ministry’s eagerness to explore collaborations with the Commission and leverage combined expertise and mandates for a more significant impact.

Arc Ahmed Musa Dangiwa made assurances of addressing the issue of affordable housing schemes for the staff of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission through Federal Mortgage Bank loans. Additionally, he pledged support for the review of the 2007 Fiscal Responsibility Act.

During the interaction, Bar Victor Muruako, the Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, presented an overview of the Commission’s achievements since its inception in 2007, emphasizing the remarkable improvements in revenue collection. He commended the Minister for his past contributions at the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and his advocacy for decent housing for the citizens.

As the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development reinforces its commitment to accountable governance, this move signifies a progressive step towards ensuring fiscal responsibility, transparency, and efficiency in the management of public resources.
