Nigerian Government Vows to Enhance Youth Service Corps Camps Nationwide

The Minister of State for Youth Development in Nigeria, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading the facilities in National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps across the country.

Expressing concern over the dilapidated state of some NYSC camps, Mr. Olawande has promised to collaborate with relevant authorities to revamp the orientation camp in Kwara State and others nationwide.

Mr. Olawande made this pledge during an impromptu visit to the NYSC orientation camp in Yikpata, Kwara State, located in North-Central Nigeria.

Expressing remorse over the appalling state of the camps, the Minister described it as unacceptable and emphasized the need for all stakeholders to address the situation.

The Minister, while appreciating the resilience of the corps members, assured them of the government’s steadfast support under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“If I can be a Minister, you all can become whatever you wish to be, and the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will continue to encourage young people, and putting youth in charge of youth affairs is just one such encouragement,” he said.

“Where do you go from here? How do you live decent lives as a graduate? These are some of the questions the Tinubu administration will answer for the youth. We’ll not fail you,” the Minister added.

In response, the State Coordinator of NYSC in Kwara State, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa, expressed delight at the Minister’s visit, considering it a morale booster for the corps members.

“We are happy with the visit of the Hon. Minister of State for Youth Development and equally excited with the prospects of his pledge to rejig the NYSC and improve its operations, especially as it concerns the camp facilities,” he said.

Before departing, the Minister engaged with the corps members, generating cheers and excitement. Additionally, Olawande visited the Mami market, where he purchased food items that were shared with the corps members. He also conducted an inspection of the kitchen, hostels, and clinic.
