NAHCON Urges FAAN to Ensure Smooth Hajj Airlift for 2024

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has called on the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to prioritize the establishment of essential facilities at the various Hajj departure zones across the country. This directive aims to guarantee a seamless airlift operation for next year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

In a statement released by NAHCON’s Deputy Director of Information and Publication, Mousa Ubandawaki, the Acting Chairman of NAHCON, Malam Jalal Arabi, emphasized this necessity during a courtesy visit by members of FAAN’s Hajj Committee in Abuja.

Arabi highlighted that the provision of necessary navigation equipment and facilities at the Hajj departure centres nationwide is crucial to facilitating a seamless Hajj airlift.

“You are a formidable partner in Hajj operation. Though there are certain considerations put in place during Hajj airlift, we expect you to tell us the state of the various airports used for Hajj airlift,” stated the NAHCON chairman.

He stressed the importance of the committee’s efficiency, noting the limited time available to carry out their assignments in line with the timeline set by Saudi Arabia for concluding all Hajj arrangements early.

Addressing the delegation, Captain Mukhtar Yusuf Muye, the Director of Airport Operations, affirmed that the Authority had commenced preparations for the 2024 Hajj approximately two months ago. This proactive approach aims to ensure a seamless operation.

Captain Muye assured that the preparations would be finalized before the commencement of Hajj airlift from the 16 designated departure airports across the country.

Nevertheless, he urged the commission to encourage tour operators’ compliance with airlifting their pilgrims through the international terminals rather than the Hajj Terminal. This adjustment would enable the Authority to maximize revenue for essential infrastructural enhancements at the airports.

Assuring the commission of the Authority’s dedication, Captain Muye expressed commitment to executing duties diligently to facilitate a seamless and pleasant airlift experience for Nigerian pilgrims during the 2024 Hajj Operation.
