Fire Scare at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo Sparks Panic

There was a reported fire scare at the new Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit of the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, sparking panic among patients and staff on a Thursday morning.

An anonymous source revealed that patients were observed fleeing the unit during the apparent emergency. “I can confirm that there was a fire scare at the new Accident and Emergency unit of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital this morning,” the source said. “I could see patients rushing for safety, hastily leaving the A&E Unit to escape the threat.”

The source further described the chaotic scene, stating, “We don’t know how the fire started, but suddenly, we saw patients seeking refuge, some with blood and bandages on their bodies.”

Responding to the situation, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Prof Peter Olaitan, refuted claims of a fire outbreak. In a message to Media Talk Africa, Prof. Olaitan clarified that it was a circuit breaker that had exploded.

He reassured, “It is not true. There was a circuit breaker that exploded and that was all. The patients are ok and in the ward. Our engineers are already working to fix it immediately.”
