Mark Hughes Criticizes Marcus Rashford’s Defensive Contribution in Manchester United

Manchester United legend Mark Hughes has launched a scathing attack on forward Marcus Rashford, labeling the 26-year-old as one of the weakest performers in the English Premier League when off the ball.
Rashford has encountered difficulties in leaving a mark for the Red Devils in the ongoing season. The England international has managed to find the net only twice in 19 appearances for Erik ten Hag’s squad so far this campaign.
He faced criticism for his lackluster performance in Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle United last weekend, subsequently being excluded from the lineup for their 1-0 triumph against Chelsea on Wednesday evening.
“I don’t believe that the players go onto the pitch with the intention of not giving their all, that’s not something that occurs. However, I feel Rashford has regressed to the mindset he held before last season – he doesn’t appear content,” Hughes expressed on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.
“He obviously encountered various challenges outside the realm of the game which may have affected him, and perhaps he needs to redirect his focus solely on his responsibilities when wearing the Manchester United shirt.
“I observe United and perceive that many of their difficulties originate from the flanks. Their reaction when bypassed is simply inadequate.
“Rashford is an exceptional talent and is among the finest in the league at taking on opponents, but his contribution without the ball is perhaps one of the weakest. He needs to address this aspect.”
