Lucky Aiyedatiwa Returns to Ondo as Acting Governor, Eases Political Tensions

Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Acting Governor of Ondo State, made a triumphant return to the state on Wednesday, following a crucial meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. His return comes amidst heightened political tensions and the absence of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who has announced his medical leave.

Aiyedatiwa’s arrival at the Akure Airport, via a commercial airline, was met with a warm reception by prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and Director of Corporate Affairs at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Ifedayo Abegunde. This homecoming coincided with the Ondo State House of Assembly’s confirmation of the receipt of a letter from Governor Akeredolu, officially transmitting power to Aiyedatiwa during his absence.

The political climate in Ondo State had been shrouded in uncertainty due to the governor’s leave, prompting calls for the enforcement of constitutional provisions to facilitate the seamless transition of power to Aiyedatiwa. This situation also fuelled internal divisions within the State Executive Council, leading to some commissioners pledging their allegiance to Aiyedatiwa. Furthermore, reports surfaced alleging the forgery of the governor’s signature during his absence.

Aiyedatiwa’s return and assumption of the responsibilities of acting governor is poised to assuage prevailing political tensions and ensure the smooth continuation of governance in Ondo State. Governor Akeredolu’s decision to delegate power to Aiyedatiwa reflects a proactive approach to maintaining stability amidst his temporary absence.

This development marks a pivotal moment in Ondo State’s political landscape, with Aiyedatiwa assuming a crucial role in steering the state through these challenging times. As the acting governor takes the helm, all eyes are on him to provide steady leadership and uphold the principles of transparency and accountability during Governor Akeredolu’s medical leave.

Aiyedatiwa’s return to Ondo State serves as a beacon of continuity and stability, offering reassurance to citizens and stakeholders alike. With his tenure as acting governor underway, the state looks towards a future guided by unwavering leadership and unwavering commitment to the welfare of its people.
