NiMet Forecasts Hazy Conditions and Sunshine Across Nigeria from Friday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has foreseen haziness and sunshine from Thursday to Saturday throughout the country.

In its weather outlook released in Abuja on Wednesday, NiMet predicted thick dust haze conditions on Thursday over the northern region during the forecast period. It anticipates moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility in the range of 2km to 5km over the North central and the Inland of the South during the forecast period.

NiMet also envisages cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine over the coastal cities, with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Cross River states during the afternoon and evening hours.

On Friday, NiMet foresees moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility in the range of 2km to 5km over the northern region during the forecast period. “Moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility in the range of 2km to 5km is envisaged over the North central region and the Inland of the South during the forecast period. Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are envisaged over the coastal cities with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River states during the afternoon and evening hours,” it said.

The agency forecasts a sunny and hazy atmosphere over the northern regions during the forecast period on Saturday. NiMet envisages sunny skies over the North central region during the forecast period. According to it, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected over the Inland states of the South.

NiMet advises the public to take necessary precautions as dust particles are in suspension. “People with Asthma and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather situations. Moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods. The public is advised to take necessary caution, avoid driving and walking through flood waters. Strong winds are likely to precede and accompany the thunderstorms; the public is advised to take necessary safety precautions,” it said.

NiMet also advises airline operators to get updated weather reports from its office for effective planning in their operations.
