House of Representatives Pledges Support to Combat Insecurity in 2024 Budget

The House of Representatives has affirmed its commitment to providing the necessary legislative framework to address the challenges of insurgency, banditry, and other forms of insecurity in Nigeria.

During the defense of the 2024 budget proposals of the military, General Chris Musa and Major General John Ochayi, the Chief of Defence Staff and Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, appeared before the House Committee on Defence. Members of the committee commended the proactive efforts of the Armed Forces in combating banditry and insurgency across the country.

Deputy spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbese, acknowledged the significant progress made by the Armed Forces in addressing the scourge of insecurity. He lauded the leadership of General Musa and the professionalism of Major General Ochayi, emphasizing their contributions to restoring peace and security in Nigeria.

Expressing the legislative resolve to support the fight against insecurity, Hon. Babajimi Benson, the chairman of the House Committee on Defence, emphasized the importance of adequate funding for the military. He recognized the challenges faced by the Armed Forces and pledged to work towards improving the funding of the defense sector through legislative interventions.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Chris Musa, thanked the lawmakers for their recognition of the military’s efforts and assured them of thorough investigations into the recent bombing incident in Kaduna. He reiterated the commitment of the Armed Forces to addressing challenges and preventing incidents that threaten the security of the nation.

In response to the support offered by the parliament, General Musa emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and expressed gratitude for the willingness of the House of Representatives to assist in enhancing the capabilities of the military. He underscored the importance of ensuring peace in Nigeria for the benefit of future generations.
