Demolition: Respect owners of land, cooperate with Sanwo-Olu – Oba of Lagos to Igbos

## Demolition Concerns: Oba of Lagos Urges Cooperation and Respect for Landowners

In a recent meeting, the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, advised the Igbo community to collaborate with the state government and show respect to the “owners of the land.” This counsel comes amidst the outcry from some Igbos in Lagos State regarding the demolition of their properties and shops by the government.

During a gathering with the President-General of Ohanaeze, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu at his Palace, Oba Akiolu emphasized that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu would not intentionally demolish their properties. Addressing the concerns raised by the Igbo community, he stated, “We know Igbos are very hard working, but you have to respect the owners of the land. We have identified the problem in Nigeria, and what we want is a solution. I am appealing to you in the name of God. The governor cannot deliberately destroy your property. Just play according to the rules of the game.”

Furthermore, Oba Akiolu extended an inclusive message, declaring, “To the Igbo, anybody who wishes the best for Lagos is a Lagosian. I assure Ndigbo that nobody will maliciously mistreat you. All of you should cooperate with the Lagos government to move the state forward.”

This call for cooperation and understanding from the Oba of Lagos comes in response to the Igbos’ complaints of ethnic profiling due to the demolition of their properties in the state. The assurance of fair treatment and the plea for collaboration underscore the Oba’s commitment to fostering unity and progress within Lagos.

As the dialogue continues, it is evident that the Oba of Lagos advocates for mutual respect and cooperation among all residents, regardless of ethnic background, with the aim of promoting harmony and development within the state.
