Rivers Crisis: Governor Fubara Champions Peace Amid Political Turbulence

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, reassures the public that his commitment to peace in the midst of the state’s political crisis is not driven by fear but by a genuine desire for harmony and progress.

During the state banquet at the Government House, Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara emphasized that the resignation of factional Speaker Edison Ehie and the subsequent decisions were made in the interest of peace and the overall welfare of the people.

Following a constructive truce meeting with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, and President Tinubu, Governor Fubara, and other key stakeholders signed an 8-point resolution to establish a path towards reconciliation and unity.

Key points of the resolution included the withdrawal of lawsuits related to the political crisis, the re-presentation of the 2024 appropriation bill to the full House of Assembly, and a plea for the people to embrace the peace process initiated by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking to the public, Governor Fubara affirmed, “Every decision we have made is rooted in our commitment to the well-being and development of our state. We refuse to engage in detrimental political strife that could jeopardize our progress.”

He further expressed, “Our actions are not a display of fear, but a demonstration of respect for our people and elders. It is a testament to our determination to avoid any conflict that would adversely impact our supporters and the state as a whole.”

Throughout his address, Governor Fubara reiterated his administration’s unwavering dedication to fostering unity, progress, and leaving behind a legacy of development and not political tension.

Dr. Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government, commended Governor Fubara for his focused leadership and urged the people to become advocates of peace, truth, and justice to propel the state towards a future of greatness despite the current challenges.
