Remembering Yoruba Icon: Olofaina, Veteran Actor, Passes Away at 74

The entertainment world mourns the loss of a legendary figure as veteran Yoruba actor, Adedeji Aderemi, popularly known as Olofaina, has passed away at the age of 74. Olofaina, a native of Ede in Osun State, breathed his last in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations.

Olofaina graced the silver screen in numerous epic Yoruba films, imprinting his talent in the hearts of audiences. His notable works include memorable performances in movies like Ogbori Elemoso, Ayanmo, Bashorun Gaa, Afonja, Lagbondoko, and Balogun Ibikunle, produced by Biodun Eleni-Latinwo, among others.

Chief Musliu Dadofunjo, also known as Baba Jogunomi, a close associate of Olofaina, confirmed the actor’s passing on a somber Thursday. Reflecting on Olofaina’s life, Dadofunjo expressed, “He died this evening. He has a house in Ibadan, but he has returned to Ede where he died at the age of 74.”

Formerly the Solaloju of Ede, Olofaina’s influential presence was also felt as he rose to the esteemed position of Majeobaje of Ede. His impact on Yoruba cinema and culture reverberates far and wide, leaving an indelible mark that will continue to inspire and entertain countless admirers around the globe. Olofaina’s memory will endure through the timeless artistry he shared with the world.
