Power Outage Hits Ogun State Communities as Egbin Power Generation Plummets

No fewer than nine Ogun communities are grappling with power outages following a significant drop in power generation from the Egbin power station. The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) made the announcement, citing Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, as one of the affected areas.

The impacted communities include Sango, Ota, Ilaro, Ayetoro, Imeko, Mowe, Ibafo, and Magboro, all within the state. According to IBEDC, the power supply disruption is a result of the decline in generation from the Egbin power station, leading to a widespread power outage across the mentioned areas.

Expressing regret for the inconvenience caused, the distribution company assured customers that its technical team is diligently collaborating with relevant stakeholders to expedite the restoration of power supply. The company also issued a sincere apology for the disruption in the power service.

Previously, on December 19, 2023, the IBEDC reported that ongoing maintenance at the Egbin Power Station resulted in zero load allocation from the Transmission Company of Nigeria, leaving residents of Abeokuta in darkness. This maintenance was initiated by the Nigeria Gas Company to facilitate the upkeep of a crucial gas pipeline supplying gas to the Egbin Power Station, as stated by the TCN.

The sudden blackout has not only inconvenienced residents but also highlighted the vulnerability of power supply in the region. As the affected communities endure this disruption, efforts are underway to address the power generation challenges and restore normalcy, providing hope for the swift resolution of the situation.

The IBEDC’s commitment to rectifying the power supply issue reflects the urgency to mitigate the impact of the power outage on the daily lives of the affected communities. As the situation unfolds, the resilience and fortitude of these communities in the face of adversity come to the fore, underscoring the vital importance of reliable power infrastructure in sustaining livelihoods and fostering economic prosperity.
