Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has issued a stern warning to employers in Abuja regarding tax compliance. Mustapha Sumaila, the Head of Corporate Communications at the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, FCT-IRS, conveyed this message in a statement on Sunday.
All employers in the nation’s capital are required to submit their 2023 annual returns on or before January 31, 2024. This directive is in accordance with Section 41 of the Personal Income Tax Act (PITA) 2011 (as amended).
Sumaila emphasized the consequences of non-compliance, citing Sections 94, 95, and 96 of PITA, which outline penalties for non-filing, incorrect/false declaration, and late submission. He made it clear that the FCT-IRS will not hesitate to enforce these laws.
In urging prompt action, Sumaila stated, “FCT-IRS encourages employers of labor, organizations, and agents to file their returns before the January 31 deadline; otherwise, late filers and non-filers will face penalties as stipulated by the law.”
