Ghanaian Chef’s Culinary Feat: 227-Hour Cook-a-Thon Sets New Record

Renowned Ghanaian chef, Failatu Abdul-Rasak, popularly known as Faila, has achieved a remarkable culinary milestone by undertaking a 227-hour cook-a-thon to secure a new Guinness World Record (GWR). Commencing her extraordinary feat on 1st January, 2024, at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale, Faila’s relentless dedication culminated in the completion of this remarkable endeavor after ten consecutive days.

In a heartfelt social media post, Faila expressed her elation, proclaiming, “Now, it’s time for us to rejoice and jubilate. This victory is dedicated to God and Ghana. Thank you all, m’pagya!” Her unwavering determination not only captivated the local community but also garnered support from prominent Ghanaian figures, including former Black Star footballers Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan. Furthermore, Ghana’s Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia, took to social media to laud Faila’s extraordinary endeavor and made a generous donation of 30,000 Ghanaian cedis (£1,981) towards her commendable achievement.

Notably, Faila’s ambitious pursuit aimed to surpass the existing GWR held by Irish chef Alan Fisher, who cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes. This remarkable feat had previously dethroned the record set by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, who held the title with 93 hours and 11 minutes of continuous cooking.

Failatu Abdul-Rasak’s monumental accomplishment not only echoes her culinary prowess but also exemplifies the enduring spirit of determination and resilience. Her unwavering commitment to elevating Ghana’s culinary standing on the global stage serves as an inspiring testament to the indomitable human spirit.
