Yemi Alade: Music Is My Passion, Not My Career

Renowned Nigerian songstress, Yemi Alade, recently shared insights on her journey in the music industry, revealing that she never saw music as a career choice. In a candid conversation on the Tea With Tay podcast, Alade expressed that her involvement in music has always been fueled by passion rather than a deliberate career pursuit.

Alade reflected on her early aspirations, admitting that she never envisioned herself solely dedicated to music. “It [music] was always a passion and I was hoping to see where it would take me,” she revealed. She emphasized that, years ago, she did not perceive music as a viable career path, stating, “If you had asked me 11/12 years ago if I wanted to be a musician, I would not pick that as a career choice. I still wouldn’t do it.”

The “Johnny” hitmaker elaborated on her mindset, acknowledging that while she was deeply invested in music as a significant hobby, she resisted the idea of it becoming her primary profession. Alade expressed her initial intention to pursue academics as her parents desired and attain employment, remaining uncertain about a full dedication to music.

Alade’s perspective shifted following her victory in the Peak Talent Show in 2009, a turning point that led to her signing with Effyzzie Music Group and achieving widespread acclaim with her single, “Johnny,” in 2014.

Through her revelation, Yemi Alade provides a compelling narrative of personal growth and transformation within the realm of music. Her experiences serve as a testament to the unpredictable journey of following one’s passion and the unforeseen paths it may lead to.
