Sunshine Stars, a prominent team in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), has taken the decisive step of parting ways with their head coach, Edith Agoye, following a string of disappointing results.
Reports have confirmed that the club’s management requested Edith Agoye, previously associated with Shooting Stars, to vacate his position on Monday. This development comes in the wake of Sunshine Stars’ 1-0 defeat against Kwara United at the Kwara Sports Complex in Ilorin.
The decision to relieve Agoye of his duties stems from the team’s current underwhelming standing, with Sunshine Stars languishing in 12th place on the NPFL table. The club’s campaign has yielded five victories, seven losses, and seven draws.
As the Akure-based outfit looks to reverse their fortunes, names such as Kennedy Boboye, Duke Udi, and Deji Ayeni have surfaced as potential successors to Agoye.
Notably, Edith Agoye steered Sunshine Stars to the Championship playoff in the previous season, marking a stark contrast to the current struggles that have prompted this managerial reshuffle.
The shake-up within the technical department signals a concerted effort by the club to arrest their slump in form and propel themselves to a more favorable standing in the league.
