Kcee Unveils DJ Origins: A Glimpse into the Early Career of a Nigerian Music Sensation

Nigerian music sensation Kingsley Okonkwo, known as Kcee, recently disclosed a lesser-known aspect of his journey to stardom – his humble beginnings as a disc jockey. In a candid conversation on the Afrobeats Podcast, the renowned ‘Limpopo’ crooner reminisced about his early days, revealing that he and his brother, E-Money, initially carved their path as DJs before transitioning to the music industry.

Reflecting on his upbringing, Kcee shared, “My father was a DJ, a record seller. I grew up in a home where my father sold records. So all the old-school artists, I know them [their music]. I was selling their records when I was about 5 or 6 years old.” His formative years were steeped in music, as he not only assisted in selling records but also found himself immersed in the world of DJs and party performances during his secondary school days.

Acknowledging the pivotal role his father played in shaping his musical acumen, Kcee expressed gratitude for the invaluable influence that fueled his artistic endeavors. He attributed his enduring success in the music industry to his innate “ear for a hit song.”
