The police in Adamawa State have confirmed the arrest of a lecturer at the Adamawa State University (ADSU) Mubi, Mal. Danjuma Garandi, for alleged sexual assault of a female teenager.

According to reports, Garandi who is the examination officer of the Department of Geography, was alleged to have attempted to rape the young woman after molesting her in his office.

The spokesman of the State Police Command, SP Sulaiman Nguroje, said the incident was first taken to the court without police involvement, and the court declined to prosecute the case, insisting on a police report first.

Nguroje said,” When his attention was drawn to the case, he inquired from the DPO of the area and was told that the case was first taken to the court without a police report, but the court reverted to the police for a detailed investigation.”

He said the police investigation report indicted the lecturer for attempted rape, and based on the police report, the court remanded the lecturer in the Mubi correctional facility.

Reacting to the report, the Vice Chancellor of Adamawa State University, Dr. Steven Lagu said he is constrained to comment on the issue as it is still in court.
