Nigerian artist, Teniola Apata, popularly known as Teni, has called upon the Super Eagles to give their all in their upcoming semi-final match against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the ongoing African Cup of Nations, AFCON. She emphasized the need for star striker Victor Osimhen and his team to secure a resounding victory to avenge the recent disappointment faced by Nigerian artists at the 66th Grammys. At the prestigious music awards ceremony, Nigerian talents Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Davido, Asake, and Olamide were overlooked, and South African artist Tyla walked away with the only non-Nigerian nomination in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category. In response to this setback, Teni expressed her plea through a video message shared on her social media platform, urging the Super Eagles to triumph over South Africa in the semi-final faceoff at Bouaké’s Stade de la Paix, in Cote D’Ivoire. “Grammy, there’s a problem. We had many celebrations. You’ve dampened our spirits. South Africa, Tyla’s ‘Water.’ Alright. [Victor] Osimhen, it’s in your court now. [Ademola] Lookman, the ball’s in your court too. South Africa, after your defeat in AFCON, you’ll be dancing Amapiano. You’ve ruined our groove. Grammy, why?” she articulated passionately. This call to action from Teni resonates with the fervor and emotions surrounding the intersection of sports and popular culture, resonating with fans on both local and global stages.
