Seun Kuti: Love, Infidelity, and the Bond of Marriage

Seun Kuti, the renowned Nigerian afrobeat singer, recently shared a striking perspective on marriage, proclaiming that he would not leave his wife if she were to engage in infidelity. During a Valentine edition of the TVC programme, Your View, Seun and his wife, Yetunde, expressed their mutual stance on this matter.

Reflecting on their union, Yetunde emphasized her unwavering commitment, stating, “There is nothing my husband is going to do that would make me leave him. Even if he cheats on me, I won’t leave him. I am not going to leave my husband because he cheated on me. Nah, that can’t happen.” Seun Kuti echoed this sentiment, asserting, “We don’t believe in cheating. What is cheating? Love is not ownership.”

When questioned about his reaction if the situation were reversed, Seun Kuti responded with conviction, “No. What has that got to do with anything?” This exchange encapsulates their shared belief in the non-negotiable nature of their bond, transcending traditional attitudes towards infidelity.

Seun Kuti’s candid declaration challenges conventional notions of marriage and fidelity, offering a thought-provoking perspective on love, commitment, and the complexities of modern relationships.
