Abia Governor Applauds Transparency in Edo Gubernatorial Primary

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has extended congratulations to Olumide Akpata on securing the Labour Party’s nomination for the Edo State Governorship Election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
Akpata, a former National President of the Nigeria Bar Association, clinched victory in the LP governorship primary held on Friday, February 23, amassing 316 votes surpassing other contenders. The election committee, chaired by Abia State’s Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, duly declared Akpata as the winner.
Governor Otti praised the transparent and credible nature of the LP Governorship Primary Election, lauding Emetu for his role as the Returning Officer.
In a statement from Umuahia, Otti expressed delight at the peaceful conduct of the primary, endorsed as free, fair, and credible by the majority of participants. This stands in contrast to reports from other political parties.
Highlighting the alignment of the election process with LP’s core values of equity, fairness, and justice, Governor Otti encouraged Akpata’s competitors to show sportsmanship by supporting him in the journey to lead Edo under the Labour Party banner.
Otti called upon all aspirants to unite behind Akpata as LP marches towards securing the Government House in Benin City. He further commended the party leadership, both locally and nationally, for their efforts in ensuring a harmonious electoral atmosphere.
