Abia State Governor’s Wife Launches 2024 Polio Eradication Campaign

The campaign to eradicate polio in Abia State has been officially launched by the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti. Leading the vaccination efforts in Umuoba, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Mrs. Otti emphasized the importance of this critical intervention in stopping the spread of the polio virus and saving lives.

Encouraging residents to cooperate with government and health officials during the campaign, Mrs. Otti stressed the need for everyone to take responsibility for their health and safety by following expert guidelines and protocols. As a dedicated supporter of the campaign, she called on all stakeholders, including civil society organizations, the private sector, and the media, to unite in the fight against the polio outbreak.

Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, the Commissioner for Health in Abia State, reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating polio under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti. He urged all parents to ensure that their children are vaccinated to prevent the spread of the virus.

Representatives from the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund also commended the state government’s dedication to eradicating polio. They emphasized that vaccination is the most effective way to stop the virus from spreading and urged parents to take advantage of the government’s vaccination program.
