NDLEA Intercepts Illicit Drug Consignment in Commercial Bus Arrests Grandfathers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in combating drug trafficking, with recent interceptions and arrests showcasing their dedication to the cause. In a recent operation along the Gbongan – Ibadan road in Osun state, NDLEA officers discovered 5.2kg of cannabis sativa and opioids hidden in the engine compartment of an interstate commercial bus. The driver, Iorliam Sughnen Dominic, was taken into custody for further investigation.

In another operation, a 26-year-old lady, Obasanmi Esther Iyanu, was arrested in Osogbo for producing and distributing skuchies. Additionally, in Borno state, two grandfathers, Mallam Mai Gemu Adam and Yamama Musa, were apprehended for drug trafficking, along with two other individuals, with 32,000 ampoules of tramadol injection seized from them.

The agency’s efforts extended to other states as well, with arrests made in Kano, Lagos, Abuja, Plateau, Kogi, and Enugu. These operations resulted in the seizure of various illicit substances, including cannabis, codeine syrup, and tramadol. The NDLEA also conducted advocacy campaigns to raise awareness about drug abuse, reaching students, teachers, and community members across the country.

Chairman/CEO of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the agency’s commands for their diligent work and urged them to continue their efforts in reducing drug supply and demand. The agency’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse remains unwavering, as they strive to create a drug-free society for all.
