Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy faced disappointment once again at the 2024 NAACP Image Awards, as he lost in six different categories. The talented artist, known as the ‘African Giant,’ was bested by Usher in the Outstanding Male Artist of the Year category. Additionally, his hit song ‘City Boys’ was surpassed by Tems’ ‘Me & U’ for the Outstanding International Song award.
Burna Boy’s collaboration with 21 Savage on ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ was unable to clinch the title for Outstanding Hip-hop/Rap Song, losing to Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Cobra.’ Furthermore, the track also missed out on the Best Duo/Group Collaboration (Contemporary) award, which was snagged by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay for ‘Sensational.’
In a tough blow, Burna Boy’s album ‘I Told Them…’ fell short of winning the Outstanding Album of the Year category, with the honor going to ‘Jaguar II’ by Victoria Monét. This adds to a string of losses for Burna Boy, including seven nominations at the 2023 BET Hip-hop Awards, four at the 2024 Grammys, and one at the 2024 Brit Awards.
On a brighter note, ‘Sensational’ by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, which previously won the Best Duo/Group Collaboration (Contemporary) award, went on to secure the Outstanding Visual Album/Song award on the second night of the 55th Image Awards.
Despite the setbacks, Burna Boy’s talent and impact on the music industry remain undeniable, and fans eagerly anticipate his future projects and successes.
