Beware of NDLEA Impersonation Scam Targeting Families with Loved Ones Abroad

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a warning to the public regarding a new scam targeting individuals with loved ones abroad. Scammers are impersonating NDLEA officers and contacting unsuspecting citizens to falsely inform them of the arrest of their relatives at international airports in Nigeria for drug-related offenses.

Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for NDLEA, revealed that the scammers create panic by claiming that the arrested individuals need to pay millions of naira for their release. In a recent incident, a Nigerian man based in the US was falsely implicated, with scammers demanding N5 million for his release.

NDLEA emphasized that these are fraudulent schemes and urged the public not to fall victim to these scams. They advised individuals with loved ones abroad to keep their travel plans confidential to prevent criminals from exploiting the information for illegal activities.

If anyone encounters a similar situation or needs clarification, they can contact NDLEA through the provided phone numbers: +2347064670026 and +2348033326327.

It is crucial to remain vigilant and cautious to avoid falling prey to such deceptive tactics. NDLEA is committed to protecting the public from these scams and ensuring the safety of all individuals traveling to and from Nigeria.
