Osun Government Committee to Combat Cyber Crimes and Fake News

The Osun Government has taken a proactive step in the fight against cyber crimes, cyberbullying, and online fake news by establishing a committee to address these issues. This move, as announced by the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, aims to create a more responsible and honest governance space where politicking and governance can thrive. In a statement released in Osogbo, Mr. Alimi emphasized the detrimental impact of fake news on both the government and the opposition. He stressed the importance of bringing all stakeholders within the boundaries of the law to exercise their rights responsibly, as guaranteed by the constitution. The committee, housed within the Ministry of Justice, comprises journalists and legal practitioners who will work together to combat the spread of fake news and ensure that all parties operate within the Cybercrime Act of 2015. This initiative underscores Governor Ademola Adeleke’s dedication to upholding good governance, due process, the rule of law, and a sense of accountability. The committee’s inaugural meeting is scheduled for Monday, signaling a strong commitment to tackling misinformation and promoting a more transparent and ethical governance environment.
