EFCC Begins Review of Bello Adokes Acquittal in Malabu OPL

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recently announced that it is conducting a review of the acquittal of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Bello Adoke, in the Malabu OPL 245 fraud case. This decision comes after the Federal Capital Territory High Court dismissed the charges against Adoke, citing a lack of evidence to support the allegations of fraud, bribery, and money laundering.

The EFCC had initially brought charges against Adoke, along with other individuals and companies, accusing him of receiving a gratification of N300 million in connection with the OPL 245 resolution. However, the trial judge, Abubakar Kutigi, ruled in favor of Adoke’s no-case submission, criticizing the EFCC for its failure to provide sufficient proof to support the charges.

In response to the court’s decision, the EFCC has stated that it is reviewing the case, including the conduct of the prosecuting counsel, Offem Uket. The commission is considering the possibility of appealing the ruling and potentially changing legal representation due to its dissatisfaction with Uket’s handling of the case.

It is important to note that the EFCC has clarified that its review is not related to any allegations of misconduct or compromise by the parties involved in the case. The commission has urged the public to disregard any unfounded rumors and await further developments in the matter.

As the EFCC continues its review of the Malabu OPL 245 fraud case, the outcome of this process will be closely monitored to ensure justice is served. Stay tuned for updates on this ongoing investigation.
