Bobrisky, a popular influencer, found himself in hot water with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for his involvement in naira abuse. The court convicted Bobrisky on April 5 after he pleaded guilty to the criminal charges brought against him by the commission.

However, the sentencing was postponed until April 9, with Bobrisky being remanded in EFCC custody in the meantime. Due to public holidays declared by the Federal Government to mark Sallah, the case could not proceed as planned. The court will communicate a new date to the parties involved.

The EFCC had filed six counts against Bobrisky, including naira mutilation and money laundering. During the arraignment before Justice Abimbola Awogboro, Bobrisky pleaded guilty to the first four counts, leading to the striking out of the last two counts by the court.

Prosecution witness Bolaji Temitope, an Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, provided evidence and detailed the circumstances surrounding Bobrisky’s prosecution. The prosecutor, Suleiman Suleiman, urged the court to proceed with the conviction based on the facts of the case.

The charges against Bobrisky stemmed from an incident on March 24 at Circle Mall, Jakande in the Lekki area of Lagos, where he was accused of tampering with ₦400,000 by spraying money during a social event. The EFCC alleged that Bobrisky had sprayed various amounts of money at different events between 2022 and 2023.

In the struck-out counts, the EFCC claimed that Bobrisky, operating under the name BobExpress, failed to declare the activities of the company and account for significant sums of money deposited into the company’s account.

The offences committed by Bobrisky contravene the provisions of the Central Bank Act 2007 and the Money Laundering Act 2022, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

This high-profile case has captured the attention of the public and raised questions about the responsibilities of influencers in financial matters. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
