Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja Orders Probe into Hotel Manager’s Death in Abia State

The tragic death of hotel manager Achimugu James Etubi in Abia State has sparked outrage and prompted an investigation by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. Reports indicate that Etubi was brutally tortured by Nigerian Army personnel following the drowning of Nigerian Air Force cadet Emmanuel Onyemereche in the hotel’s swimming pool.

In a statement released by Director Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army expressed concern over the allegations and assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to uncover the truth behind Etubi’s death.

“The Nigerian Army is deeply concerned by the alleged unprofessional conduct of some of its personnel in the tragic death of a hotel manager in Umuahia, Abia State,” the statement read. “The Chief of Army Staff has promptly ordered a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the facts and bring to book anyone found culpable.”

Offering condolences to the families of the deceased, the Army pledged to ensure that justice is served in the matter. “The NA extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased Manager Achimugu Etubi and the Nigerian Air Force Officer Cadet Emmanuel Onyemereche and assure the public that every effort will be made to ensure that justice is served,” the statement added.
