The New Nigeria Peoples Party is calling on the government to take action to protect Nigerian schools from kidnappers and step up efforts to rescue the remaining Chibok girls. It has been ten years since 276 girls from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, were abducted by the Boko Haram terrorist group on April 14, 2014. Despite some girls being rescued, 89 are still missing.

In a statement released by the NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the party expressed concern over the ongoing trauma experienced by the families of the abducted girls and the nation as a whole. The NNPP highlighted the need for additional measures to locate and rescue the remaining girls from their captors.

The party acknowledged the government’s efforts in rescuing some of the girls but emphasized the importance of not forgetting those still in captivity. They also raised questions about the rehabilitation of rescued girls and the effectiveness of Safe School Programmes.

As the nation reflects on the 10-year anniversary of the Chibok girls’ abduction, the NNPP emphasized the importance of rescuing those still in captivity, addressing the issue of over 20 million out-of-school girls, and tackling the recurring challenge of insecurity to promote socio-economic development in the country.
