FCT Minister Donates 100 Motorcycles to Boost Security in Abuja

In a bid to enhance security measures in the nation’s capital, FCT Minister Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has generously donated 100 motorcycles to various security outfits and the Six Area Councils in Abuja. The presentation ceremony took place in Abuja on Monday, April 15, 2024, and was attended by the Area Council Chairmen and Heads of the Security Agencies.

The Minister outlined the distribution plan for the motorcycles, with each of the six Area Councils receiving 10 motorcycles to be allocated to their vigilante groups. Additionally, the police will receive 30 motorcycles, while the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will each receive 5 motorcycles.

Expressing his confidence in the impact of these motorcycles on improving security in the capital, Wike emphasized the importance of utilizing them effectively in combating crime, particularly in rural areas. He highlighted the vulnerability of rural regions to criminal activities due to their remote and challenging terrains, urging the security agencies to prioritize protection in these areas.

Furthermore, the Minister urged the Area Council Chairmen to ensure the motorcycles are utilized for their intended purpose and not for commercial use. Emphasizing the importance of deploying the motorcycles in rural areas, Wike stressed the need for accountability and proper management to prevent misuse.

In addition to the motorcycles, Wike announced that patrol vehicles would soon be provided to the security agencies to further support their efforts in combating crime and criminal activities. He assured continued support from the FCT Administration, with plans to supply more resources in the near future.

As the fight against crime continues in Abuja, the donation of motorcycles and upcoming provision of patrol vehicles signify a significant step towards bolstering security measures in the nation’s capital. The commitment of the FCT Minister and the collaborative efforts of the security agencies and Area Councils reflect a united front in safeguarding the community and ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
