The Corps Commander of Amotekun Corps in Osun State, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi (retd.), issued a stern warning on Monday against any unlawful gatherings under the guise of Yoruba Nation agitation in the state. He emphasized that Amotekun would not tolerate protests by the group in Osun State, in light of recent events.
Recently, suspected Yoruba Nation agitators, dressed in military attire and armed, attempted to hoist their flag at the Oyo State Government Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan. Subsequently, 20 of the agitators were arrested by the police.
Brigadier General Adewinmbi stressed the importance of maintaining peace and security in the state, stating that there is no need for Yoruba Nation agitation in Osun. He pointed out that Nigeria, under President Bola Tinubu, a Yoruba man, indirectly represents a Yoruba Nation. Therefore, creating unrest and diverting the president’s attention with such protests is unnecessary.
To prevent similar incidents, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, directed his Special Adviser on Security Matters to mobilize joint security teams to secure key government buildings in the state. Additionally, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, affirmed the readiness of the command to prevent any lawlessness, regardless of the perpetrators’ status.
In conclusion, the focus remains on maintaining peace and stability in Osun State, with a firm stance against disruptive activities under the guise of Yoruba Nation agitation. Let us prioritize progress and unity, rather than unnecessary division.
