The Zamfara Government has made a significant decision by appointing retired Maj. Maikano Adamu as the Acting Commandant of the State Security Protection Guards, CPG, following the suspension of the former Commandant, retired Col. Rabi’u Yandoto. This move, announced by the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mannir Haidara, comes in the wake of Governor Dauda Lawal’s launch of the state-owned security outfit, Community Protection Guards, CPG, in February 2024, as part of efforts to address the ongoing insecurity in the state.

Governor Lawal’s approval of Maj. Adamu’s appointment as the Acting Commandant of the State Community Protection Guards signifies a new chapter in the state’s security operations. Prior to this appointment, Maj. Adamu served as the Deputy State Commandant of CPG, and his new role is effective immediately.

The suspension of retired Col. Yandoto, the former Commandant, is believed to be linked to his recent radio interview, where he raised concerns about the non-payment of CPG staff salaries and the lack of logistical support for CPG operations in the state. This development underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in the state’s security apparatus.

As the new Acting Commandant, Maj. Adamu will be tasked with leading the State Security Protection Guards and ensuring the safety and security of the people of Zamfara. His appointment marks a pivotal moment in the state’s security landscape, and his leadership will be crucial in addressing the challenges facing the state.

This decision by the Zamfara Government highlights the commitment to strengthening security measures and enhancing the protection of citizens. With Maj. Adamu at the helm, the State Security Protection Guards are poised to make significant strides in safeguarding the well-being of the people of Zamfara.
