Minister of Interior Leads Test Run of E-Gates at Abuja Airport

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, recently led a successful test run of the newly installed electronic gates (e-gates) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The project, nearing completion, aims to revolutionize passenger movement by eliminating human interfaces and bureaucratic hurdles.

Tunji-Ojo, accompanied by top officials such as the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Ndayako, and the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, announced plans to fully deploy the e-gates by the following week. The deployment includes 29 e-gates for Lagos, four each for Enugu and Kano, and five for Port Harcourt.

The minister highlighted the rigorous testing of airport infrastructure and command centers to ensure the seamless processing of genuine passports while rejecting fake or expired ones. He emphasized the e-gates’ crucial role in enhancing airport security and preventing unwanted individuals from entering Nigeria.

Tunji-Ojo praised the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria and the Nigeria Customs Service, in aligning with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda to improve passenger experiences and national security. He commended Minister of Aviation, Hon. Festus Keyamo (SAN), and other critical stakeholders for their contributions to this transformative initiative.

With the implementation of these e-gates, Nigeria’s security through its airports is guaranteed, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing national security and passenger experiences. Stay tuned for more updates on this groundbreaking development.
