Emir of Kano Pledges Support for Kano Independent Research Center Trust

The 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has pledged his support for the Kano Independent Research Center Trust (KIRCT) to help it achieve its objectives. He made this commitment during a courtesy call by the donors and trustees of the center at his palace.

KIRCT, established by the Kano government and Pfizer in Dawakin Kudu, Kano, focuses on conducting biomedical research on communicable and non-communicable diseases of public health importance in Nigeria and Africa. It also runs programs for workforce development in public health.

During the meeting, the donors and trustees briefed the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, on the ongoing development and long-term sustainability of the research center.

Emir Bayero expressed his familiarity with the center’s establishment and emphasized his commitment to sustaining the efforts of those before him. He assured the donors and trustees of his full support and cooperation.

A joint statement issued after the meeting highlighted the progress made by the Trust in establishing a preeminent research center. It acknowledged the contributions of various stakeholders, including the late trustee Prof Kamil Alausa, and wished success to the Director-General, Prof Hamisu Salihu, and the Executive Secretary, David Odiwo.

The delegation included representatives from Pfizer, such as Chief Anthony Idigbe (SAN), Mr. Olayinka Subair, Pfizer Country Manager, Nigeria/Cluster Lead, West Africa, and Mr. Rhulani Nhlaniki, Cluster Lead, Sub-Sahara Africa.

Pfizer expressed its commitment to advancing wellness, prevention, treatments, and cures for diseases worldwide. The company collaborates with healthcare providers, governments, and local communities to support access to reliable and affordable healthcare.
